Islip Town Taps Bayport Resident as New Planning Chief

A Bayport resident is now Islip Town Planning Commissioner after the town council ousted Dave Genaway Thursday night during its budget hearing.

Richard Zapolski, who has served deputy planning commissioner since hired in January, 2012, is replacing Genaway who was appointed by former Democratic Town Supervisor Phil Nolan. Genaway had served in the role for over two years, according to a Newsday report.

According to Newsday both Genaway and Zapolski are Republicans. Tuesday's election returned the incumbent Republicans for another four-year term.

Zapolski, who serves as president of the Bayport-Blue Point Youth Lacrosse organization, worked for several private engineering companies and land development firms, according to his LinkedIn profile.
