Long Island Blood Services worked out a deal with the New York Mets, allowing the center to give two free tickets to each blood donor. Giving a little blood is a small price to pay to get two tickets to a baseball game.

Assemb. Graf said this drive is part of a series of events he has organized and participated in to promote local libraries.

"People don't realize libraries are such a big part of the community," he said.

Previously, Assemb. Graf has held seminars on wills, living wills and healthcare at libraries located within the fifth assembly district, which he represents.

Having community members recognize the value their library represents is something Assemb. Graf said he'd like to see.

"People pay for these institutions," he said. "We want to get people to come out and look at their library differently."

As far as giving blood, Assemb. Graf donated, and expects others to do the same.

"It takes four minutes and it makes a big difference, you could help save a life," he said.
