Eastbound Ocean Parkway Closed Along Jones Beach Through Month's End

Roadway is shut down to eastbound motorists between the Wantagh State Parkway and Meadowbrook Parkway due to reconstruction of a pedestrian tunnel at Jones Beach.

The eastbound Ocean Parkway has been closed to motorists between the Wantagh State Parkway (WSP) and Meadowbrook Parkway (MSP) until the end of April due to reconstruction of a pedestrian tunnel at Jones Beach.

New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) officials said the pedestrian tunnel being worked on is between Jones Beach Parking Field 4 and the central mall. The project also resulted in westbound Ocean Parkway traffic being shut down in March. The reconstruction of the pedestrian tunnel is expected to be completed by Memorial Day weekend.

Southbound MSP motorists are being detoured to Bay Parkway eastbound to the WSP to Ocean Parkway eastbound, according to DOT officials. Eastbound Ocean Parkway motorists will be detoured to Bay Parkway and will follow the same detour above back to Ocean Parkway eastbound. Westbound Ocean Parkway motorists are unaffected by the closure.

Motorists are being warned in advance of the closures via electronic roadway signs but westbound Ocean Parkway motorists are urged to use alternate routes, such as Sunrise Highway or Southern State Parkway to avoid delays.
