Councilman Edwards Announces Triathlon to Benefit Wounded Veterans

The event is set for the end of September.

Triathletes from across Long Island will soon be descending upon Islip to compete and support wounded American service members and their families.  Councilman John Edwards has announced that the inaugural TRIslip triathlon will be held in Bay Shore on Sunday, September 25 with proceeds going to benefit the Hope for the Warrior Foundation.

”Combining an athletic event with benefiting such a worthwhile cause is tremendous” said Edwards.  “I am anticipating an enthusiastic response from the community.”

“The Town is proud to sponsor an event that will benefit our wounded servicemen and women” said Supervisor Phil Nolan.  “No one is more deserving of our support.”

Hope for the Warriors is a national, not-for-profit organization that provides support for wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen.  Their mission is to enhance the quality of life for service members and their families who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty.  Since it’s founding in 2006, Hope for the Warriors® has witnessed tremendous growth in both the number those served and the programs offered as they work to ensure that the sacrifices of wounded and fallen service members and their families are never forgotten nor their needs unmet.

“Hope For The Warriors thanks the Town of Islip for supporting those in our military who have made great sacrifices for our country,” Jack Caffey, Hope For The Warriors® Project Coordinator said.  “Long Island is home to many of military families and this event is an outstanding demonstration of your commitment to them.”

The Town will organize the race in conjunction with EventPower which has produced over 100 multi-sport events on Long Island since 1994.  The race, a sprint triathlon, will take place early in the morning at the Bay Shore Marina Park.  Islip residents will receive a $5 discount from the registration fee.

For more information about the race, please contact Edwards’ office at (631) 224-5559 and check EventPower’s website at www.eventpowerli.com.  For information about Hope for the Warriors, please go to www.hopeforthewarriors.org.
