Corey Beach, Davis Park Open for One Last Summer Weekend

Popular summer spots are two of four Brookhaven beaches officially open one more weekend.

While the majority of Brookhaven's town-operated beaches and pools ended their regular summer hours on Labor Day, Corey Beach in Blue Point and Davis Park on Fire Island are two of four town beaches that will operate one more weekend with lifeguards before the close of the summer season.

The same is true for Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai and West Meadow beach. Those four are the town's most popular beaches, according to Kevin Molloy, a town spokesman. They will be staffed with lifeguards between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. this coming weekend, he said.

But at other favorite summer spots across town, lifeguards have officially left their posts for the season. It's been that way for decades in the Town of Brookhaven, Molloy said.

"All pools and the majority of beaches and summer recreation programs traditionally conclude Labor Day," he said.
