Community Event Aims to Help Local Sandy Victims

Patchogue community service groups and chamber holding "Happy & Thankful" benefit.

On Monday, November 26, the Village of Patchogue, along with Patchogue area community service organizations and the Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, will host a “Happy & Thankful Hour” event to benefit area residents who have been adversely affected by Superstorm Sandy. 

The Emporium located at 9 Railroad Avenue in Patchogue Village is donating their facility for the event, to be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. For a minimum donation of $20, guests can stop in at any time and enjoy beer, wine and food, all donated by local restaurants and establishments. 

The Island Outreach Foundation has agreed to match all donations received on Monday night. 

Every attendee counts twice

As of release time, food and beverage donations had been received from the Emporium, Associated  gourmet market,  Bobbique, JT’s on the Bay, Pope Liquors, the Brickhouse Brewery, Del Fiore Pork Store, the Mediterranean Manor, Luchese’s Pizza, Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, Spider Bite Brewery, the Harbor Crab, Burger Shack and Clare Rose, Inc.

All proceeds from this event will directly benefit Patchogue area residents who have suffered great losses due to the storm, including those that were both un-insured and under-insured. 

The Village of Patchogue has established an Office of Sandy Relief at the Community Development Agency at Village Hall, 14 Baker Street or call at 475-4300 option 6.  All area residents who have suffered losses are encouraged to visit and register for assistance.

Stop by any time between 5 and 10  p.m. to help support this event. If you cannot attend but would like to help, tax-deductible contributions can be made out to The Patchogue Community Service Foundation and sent to P.O. Box 821, Patchogue, NY 11772.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
