Updated: Woman Struck, Killed by Train in Sayville

Patient was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Brookhaven Hospital.

An “adult female” was struck by a train at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday just west of the Sayville train station, according to Wendy Liu, public information officer for the Sayville Fire Department, which responded to the scene. The eastbound train was due in at Montauk at 11:57 p.m.

“The female patient was removed from under the train and was in traumatic cardiac arrest,” said James MacDonell, lieutenant of the Community Ambulance Company. “She was originally going to be taken by helicopter, but that was cancelled because a Suffolk County Police Department helicopter will not transport a patient in cardiac arrest.”

According to MacDonell, the patient was transported by ground to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital with three advanced life supporters as well as three additional emergency medical technicians on board. Community Ambulance Company was also on scene. The patient was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Brookhaven Hospital.
