MTA Police ID Woman Fatally Struck by Train

Investigation is continuing, but police say incident was apparent suicide.

The woman fatally struck by a Long Island Railroad train in West Sayville on Friday has been identified as Maryanne Cannon, 47, of Oakdale. According to MTA Police, they are investigating the incident as an apparent suicide.

On Aug. 6, Cannon was struck and killed at 8:20 a.m. on the tracks between Rollstone Avenue and Cherry Avenue in West Sayville by the 7:55 a.m. train out of Babylon headed for Patchogue.

Darrell Schober, who lives on Rollstone Avenue, said that the dead end by the tracks has been a trouble spot for some time.

"I have called the LIRR and MTA to try and get a gate put up," said Schober. "This area is such a hazard."

No other information was provided and the investigation is ongoing.
