Woman Facing DUI Charge in Bayport Crash

Bayport Fire Department volunteers extricated both drivers in Sunrise Highway crash.

A Brightwaters woman is charged with DUI in relation to a car crash in Bayport that police say she caused by driving in the wrong lane of Sunrise Highway late Wednesday night.

Police say Julie Caradona, 55, was driving her 1997 Camry westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway about 11 p.m., just west of Nicolls Road near Veterans Memorial Highway, when her vehicle struck a 2002 Nissan Maxima driven by a 30 year-old Brentwood man.

Caradona’s car struck the front end of the Nissan on the driver’s side, causing the other driver to swerve to avoid her vehicle. Police say the Brentwood man lost control of his vehicle and overturned.
