A Brightwaters woman is charged with DUI in relation
to a car crash in Bayport that police say she caused by driving in the wrong lane of Sunrise Highway late Wednesday
Police say Julie Caradona, 55, was driving her 1997 Camry westbound in the eastbound lanes of the highway about 11 p.m., just west of Nicolls Road near Veterans Memorial Highway, when her vehicle struck a 2002 Nissan Maxima driven by a 30 year-old Brentwood man.
Caradona’s car struck the front end of the Nissan on the driver’s side, causing the other driver to swerve to avoid her vehicle. Police say the Brentwood man lost control of his vehicle and overturned.
The Bayport Fire Department responded and extricated both drivers from their vehicles and both were transported by the Community Ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue.
Police say Caradona is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver is being treated for multiple fractures and is listed in serious but stable condition.
Highway Patrol Officer Joseph Verdi arrested Caradona and she is charged DUI, according to police.
