Vandal Defaces Blue Point Catholic Church Sign

Criminal mischief included vulgar phrase relating to God and a possible reference to death of local teenager.

Suffolk Police are investigating a criminal mischief incident at the Our Lady of Snow Church in Blue Point that was reported as a possible hate crime.

A parish member, who requested anonymity, told Patch the mass schedule sign, in front of the 'big' church on Blue Point Avenue, was defaced with three phrases, including “666” and a vulgar reference to God sometime during the weekend of May 6. The third phrase was a date on the sign--March 14, 2012-- which corresponds to the date of the death of Blue Point 17-year-old Billy Schettino.

A Suffolk County Police Department spokesperson stated there was no releasable information available as of Monday evening relating to the incident.
