Updated Information on Walnut Avenue House Fire

West Sayville Fire Department Chief Kelly Barnes releases details on Sunday night's house fire.

The West Sayville Fire Department (WSFD) was called to a on Sunday at 8:57 p.m. When they arrived, they found a fully involved house fire at 505 Walnut Avenue in Bohemia.

According to WSFD Chief Kelly Barnes, the family was home when the fire started. "The homeowner was in his bedroom and saw the fire coming from the back corner of the house through his bedroom window," said Chief Barnes. "The family quickly evacuated."

The fire caused extensive damage to the house and also damaged a detached garage as well as the siding of a neighbor's garage, according to Barnes. The family has been displaced as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is not believed to be suspicious. There were three minor injuries reported but everyone was treated at the scene and no one required further medical attention.

Sayville, Bohemia and East Islip Fire Departments and the Sayville Community Ambulance assisted at the scene and Bayport Fire Department stood by.
