Train Strikes Car in Patchogue (Updated)

Car had broken down on the train tracks and was stuck, no reports of injuries in crash at Rider Avenue crossing.

A Long Island Rail Road train collided with the car on the tracks of the Rider Avenue crossing in Patchogue Wednesday morning.

The vehicle was struck at approximately 6:45 a.m. by the westbound train that left Speonk at 6:21 a.m., Salvatore Arena, MTA spokesperson, told Patch.

The driver, Angel Cando, had already left the vehicle before the train struck, as MTA police determined that while passing over the tracks the vehicle's front right wheel came off. As a result the car was stuck.

Arena said that the train engineer attempted to stop the train upon seeing the vehicle, but was unable to avoid the collision.

Cando, 27 of Patchogue, was arrested by police on charges of driving without a license.

There were delays on the LIRR's Montauk branch for about an hour following the crash. Service has since returned to normal.

He should run for board member and use village money to fix the car

Well at least he got out of the car before the collision, a car is no match for a diesel powered locomotive train.I will have to say this was one time the engineer should have used his whistle.Wonder how far the train pushed the car headed west toward Village Hall ,The place where a lot of things occur and a lot of things do not occur according to the most recent audit................
