Supervisor Declares State of Emergency In Brookhaven

Residents are asked to stay off the roads.

Supervisor Ed Romaine declared a state of emergency for Brookhaven Town on Friday effective at 6:30 p.m. due to the fierce winter blizzard blanketing the area.

The state of emergency is meant to remind residents that emergency vehicles should be the only vehicles on town roadways to permit town snow plows to pass through; driving is extremely dangerous.

Residents are reminded to stay away from all downed wires and await the proper response should they encounter any on the road.

Residents can also call 451-TOWN to report snow-related issues.

To report a power outage or downed wires, residents can call LIPA at 1-800-490-0075 or 631-755-6900, or go to www.lipower.org to make a report online.

It's 11pm, Sunday evening. My development has not been touched! No cars on Rte. 112 in Coram all day because that is not plowed either. This is not cute anymore.

Keep electing the same clowns. You know the ones that go on vacation during a storm. Your right he was OK until he got elected like the rest of the clowns.

I think he should be forced to step down as well as the clown in the highway department.

A post on News 12 by one of the private hire plows that the town uses gives a telling story about why my neighbors and I had to clear the street ourselves: "it snowed 26 inches in 2009 and nothing like this!!we dont plow for Town of Brookhaven anymore 3 yrs ago they tripled the amount of ins u would need and it was way toooo steep for my blood and 100s of others so they lost many hire ons but didnt care because it hadnt really snowed now we have a storm and I am shocked at how bad our rds are" comment posted on: Brookhaven Deputy Supervisor Panico: Unplowed roads 'unacceptable' longisland.news12.com
