SCPD Canvass Bayport For "Person in Distress"
Police use helicopter, patrol cars in response to a call from a Bayport resident who heard screams Tuesday night.
On Tuesday night, Bayport resident Lynette Marichal was getting ready for bed in her home on South Ocean Avenue when she heard sounds of a low-flying helicopter.
What she heard was Suffolk County Police searching the area by helicopter and in their cruisers after receiving a call from a residents stating they heard a person nearby yelling.
Police were unable to find any evidence of a person in distress, according to officials.

The sirens sounded far away, but the noise of the helicopter is what caused Marichal to peek out her window.
"The noise from the helicopter was very loud. When I looked out my window I could see the lights," she said.

Kristine Smith, who lives on Oak Street in Bayport, said she felt her whole house shake.
"I looked out my window and saw a low flying SCPD helicopter. The searchlight from the helicopter was sweeping the neighborhood," Smith said. "Several police cars were carefully going up and down the block with their searchlights scanning the yards. The noise and the commotion lasted for about an hour before I was able to go to bed."
