Security Operations Normal at MacArthur Airport

Officials say travelers will not experience security-related delays.

Security operations at Long Island MacArthur Airport are running normally as airport officials said they have not received any alerts from federal agencies to increase security following the death of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

Teresa Rizzuto, commissioner of Long Island MacArthur, told Patch that the Department of Homeland Security has said previously that it would issue security alerts to airports only when it has “credible information” that al Qaeda or other terrorist organizations may be planning an attack in the U.S. utilizing aircraft.

“The airport’s law enforcement division continues to work closely with the (Transportation Security Administration) and Suffolk County police to provide a safe environment for travelers,” she said. “We remain vigilant and continue to take numerous security measures that are both seen and unseen.”

Rizzuto said travelers using Long Island MacArthur should not anticipate any delays related to security and operations today are the same as they were prior to the announcement of bin Laden’s death by President Barack Obama late Sunday night.

More information on the status of flights arriving and departing at MacArthur Airport can be found on the airport’s website.
