Sayville Middle School Teacher Charged With DWI

Philip Anzalone is due back in court today.

A Sayville middle school special education teacher is due back in First District Court today relating to charge of driving while intoxicated.

Philip Anzalone, of Oakdale, was pulled over near the intersection of Montauk Highway and Berard Boulevard in Oakdale at about 9:30 p.m. on August 2 for not having his headlights activated, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.

Police noticed that Anzalone’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, according to the DA.

Police administered a breath test and the result was .15 percent of 1 percent blood alcohol content, nearly double the legal charge of .08 percent, according to the DA.

The 39-year-old was then arrested and charged with a vehicle infraction count for no headlight use and DWI.

Anzalone was arraigned on August 3 and released on his own recognizance.

The Sayville School District told Patch it does not comment on personnel matters.

Is the district/taxpayers paying him for the day off ?

Why would the school district not want to comment on Mr Anzaloness behavior! Mr Anzalone was driving around at 9:00 at night drunk with his headlights off. MR ANZALONE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A ROLE MODEL TO OUR CHILDREN.

The only one who benefits in this case is the attorneys, Suffolk County and NYSDMV which is a corrupt organization and allowed to make their own in house rules and by pass legislation when it comes to DMV cases. Lowering the legal limit was a big money maker. As far as ROLE MODEL....he made a mistake. He's human.

His speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet, Maureen. Whoever makes money, a dangerous driver was taken off the road, therefore , we all benefit. Bravo to SCPD. He did make a mistake, and like all who do there are consequences. All humans suffer them when they error. I think he should lose his job to be honest. Ha.. Who can take his rants seriously now. District probably fears being sued if they say a word.. Anzalone's always volatile, explosive, capable of knee jerk lawsuit, no doubt.

I believe he should suffer the consequences although I don't believe he should lose his job. That's ridiculous. I don't know the guy. Obviously you didn't like him before this happened.

No problem with him as a teacher or coach before, even if he could be explosive - kids have to get along with all kinds of teacher personalities, IMO. But his recent behavior (DWI) was reckless and criminal. Doubt if he were applying for the job now, he'd get it, so, yes, I do think he should be fired. Do you want a teacher, who is prone to reckless behavior, not to mention one who recently behaved in a dangerous and potentionally life threatening manner? I'd not hire him now, not for a teaching or coaching job.

I wonder what rating Mr Anzalone was given this year with the new rating system. I would think the school board would have to tell us under the freedom of information act. I think I will ask at the next board meeting

I agree with you Maureen. Obviously "resident" has a personal issue with him...Honestly sounds like a gossip monger comment page....the guy made a mistake...he will pay the price...he will take this lesson with him for the rest of his life.

I don't think a DWI arrest is a valid reason to fire the guy. He made a mistake and he should be legally responsible. Firing him is a bit harsh. If he is convicted of another DWI then maybe that's a problem that should result in his termination.
