Sayville Middle School Teacher Charged With DWI

Philip Anzalone is due back in court today.

A Sayville middle school special education teacher is due back in First District Court today relating to charge of driving while intoxicated.

Philip Anzalone, of Oakdale, was pulled over near the intersection of Montauk Highway and Berard Boulevard in Oakdale at about 9:30 p.m. on August 2 for not having his headlights activated, according to the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.

Police noticed that Anzalone’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, according to the DA.

Police administered a breath test and the result was .15 percent of 1 percent blood alcohol content, nearly double the legal charge of .08 percent, according to the DA.

The 39-year-old was then arrested and charged with a vehicle infraction count for no headlight use and DWI.

Anzalone was arraigned on August 3 and released on his own recognizance.

The Sayville School District told Patch it does not comment on personnel matters.
