Sayville Man Suffers Heart Attack on Front Lawn

Community Ambulance Company of Sayville responds to call.

On Friday, March 11, at 2:44 p.m., the was activated to an alarm dispatched as an elderly male in cardiac arrest.

Within one minute of activation, Community Ambulance responded to the man’s Sayville home with a first responder vehicle staffed by two Paramedics along with an ambulance staffed carrying three EMT-Basics and one EMT-Critical Care. The ambulance and responder vehicle were on scene within three minutes of activation, and upon arrival found an elderly male in cardiac arrest on the front lawn of his home. Two bystanders were performing CPR, and upon arrival, the ambulance crew immediately took over CPR and began ventilating the patient.

The crew also began advanced life support interventions, including endotracheal intubation, establishing intravenous access (IV) to administer life-saving cardiac medications and monitoring the patient’s heart rhythm. Before even leaving the scene, the patient regained a pulse as well as a blood pressure.

The crew immediately loaded the patient into the ambulance and transported him to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue. Due to this crew’s rapid response and superb patient care, this man has been given the chance to survive. Although he still has a hard fight ahead of him, the members of Community Ambulance have given him a second chance at life.
