Sayville Man Identified as Victim of Fatal Train Strike in Bayport

MTA releases name of man struck and killed by train in Bayport on Aug. 21.

Stephen Caracost, of Sayville, has been identified as the man who was by an eastbound Long Island Rail Road train on the tracks Aug. 21 near McConnell Avenue in Bayport.

The 22-year-old was unauthorized to be on the train tracks, according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) spokesman Sam Zambuto.

At this time, it is unknown why Caracost, a 2007 graduate of Sayville High School, was on the tracks when the Speonk-bound train struck and killed him at 8:50 a.m. that Sunday. Salvatore Arena, another MTA spokesman, said the appropriate departments continue to probe this case.
