Sayville Man Arrested for Impersonating a Police Officer

Christopher Maier identifies himself as a Village of Saltaire police officer during traffic stop.

Suffolk County Police arrested 28-year old Sayville resident Christopher Maier for impersonating a police officer during a traffic stop in Islip Terrace on Jan. 7.

Third Precinct Community Oriented Police Enforcement (COPE) Officer Michael Corbett initiated a traffic stop at Lowell Avenue and Greenlawn Avenue in Islip Terrace at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 7. According to Corbett, during the traffic stop, the driver identified himself as a Village of Saltaire police officer and displayed a Lieutenants badge. Further investigation revealed that he was not an officer.

Maier was charged with Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree.

Maier was scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Jan. 8.
