Sayville Fire Department Responds to Overnight Call

Volunteers extinguish a suspicious garage fire on Lincoln Avenue.

This morning, at 2:10 a.m., the Sayville Fire Department was notified that a neighbor called in a shed fire on Lincoln Avenue. Thirty Sayville volunteer firefighters left the comfort of their beds and quickly responded to the alarm, where flames and heavy smoke were pouring out of  a detached garage.

The volunteers quickly forced entry and extinguished the fire. Their job was not finished once the fire was out. There were still many lengths of hose to pack onto the trucks before firefighters could be released and head home.  Everyone did their part to put hoses and equipment back into service as quickly as possible as they were very aware of their awaiting workday alarm clock settings.

The cause of the suspicious fire is under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad.
