Reminder: Light the Night With Ladies Auxiliary Sept. 11

Blue Point Fire Department organization is asking residents to participate in a fund raising event to remember those lost on 9/11.

What better way to remember the victims of 9/11 than to participate in an event that allows the Ladies Auxiliary to fund charitable causes in the Bayport-Blue Point community?

The small group of women is sponsoring the fundraising event on the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Residents can participate by lighting candles in front of their homes on Sept. 11 at dusk to honor the victims of 9/11 and the families they left behind.

Residents can get a $10 kit with all the materials needed to participate. Kits will be available for pick-up at the Blue Point fire house on Sept. 7 and Sept. 8 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Kits are still available, and should be until Sunday, said Shelley Wenk of the auxiliary. If you can't make any of the pick-up times at the fire house, you can stop by Wenk's home to get one.

Half of the proceeds will be donated to Stony Brook University Medical Center's Burn Unit, with the rest of the money to be kept in-house to help sponsor Ladies Auxiliary community causes, such as scholarships for two graduating seniors and adopting two families during the holidays.
