Police: Woman With Kids In Car Flees Accident

Suffolk Police arrest Zona Taylor in Blue Point and charge her with DWI after allegedly causing crash in Patchogue.

A Bellport woman was arrested Saturday night in Blue Point after allegedly fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Patchogue, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Zona Taylor, 43, was driving a 2005 Dodge Neon westbound on Montauk Highway at the corner of North Prospect Ave. in Patchogue when she allegedly was involved in a collision with a 2003 Ford that was also travelling westbound.

Police said Taylor fled the scene and was followed by a witness who contacted police.

At around 11 p.m. Saturday night, Taylor was located by police on Dogwood Lane in Blue Point, fleeing from her vehicle with her 8-year old child and two grandchildren, ages four and six, after the vehicle became disabled, police said.

An adult passenger and the three children in Taylor’s vehicle were injured and one occupant from the other vehicle was also injured in the crash, police said. They were taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.

Taylor was arrested for DWI, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra’s Law), leaving the scene of an accident with injury and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

She was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday. The children were released to the custody of a family member.
