The Suffolk County Police Department arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly stealing packages delivered to the doorsteps of a West Babylon home.
Police said suspect Christopher Breitkopf, 38, a homeless man, walked up the front steps of a West Babylon home at 4:45 p.m. and removed two packages containing over $200 worth of music equipment that had been delivered and left on the doorstep.
The Old Farmingdale Road homeowner, whose identity was not released, captured images of a man taking the packages using a surveillance camera. The homeowner, after realizing the packages had been delivered and stolen, found the images, contacted police and released the footage to detectives and Newsday.
The SCPD said a First Precinct Officer obtained information on Tuesday evening about a possible suspect and, upon further investigation, identified Breitkopf as the suspect.
The officer, James Castaldo, arrested Breitkopf at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in West Babylon.
Breitkopf, who was captured wearing sunglasses and featured a goatee, had shaven to change his appearance, according to the police. He is charged with Petit Larceny and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 12.
