Police: Two Injured Men Flee Boat Crash

Two injured men "fled the scene" of a boat crash in the Great South Bay in Blue Point early Monday morning, police said.

According to police, Marine Bureau officers responded to 911 call reporting that a boat had struck a jetty just south of Namkee Lane around 4 a.m. When officers arrived, they were unable to locate any occupants with the boat, a 2004 21-foot Maverick, police said.

Following a search on land, police found the two men who had been on the boat, Jarett Brownie and Thomas Gamble, on a private dock a short time later.  Police said the men climbed to shore via the jetty. Police are now trying to determine who was operating the boat, which was severely damaged, at the time of the crash.

Brownie, 32, of Patchogue, suffered head lacerations and Gamble, 32, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., suffered a broken foot in the crash. Both men were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment, police said.
