Police Seek Help in Returning Headstone to Proper Place

Teen finds burial stone near Heckscher State Park in Great River.

Suffolk Police are seeking the public’s help in getting a found headstone back to its proper burial place.

A 17-year-old teenager discovered a headstone on a trail in the woods near the northbound Heckscher Parkway in Great River and called the Third Precinct to make a report.

The gravestone is made of marble and weighs approximately 125 pounds and bears the name Charles A. Denneen, noting a birth date of 3/28/22 and a death date of 12/19/66.

Suffolk County Police Third Precinct recovered officers recovered the stone and is asking anyone with information to call 854-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
