Police: Sayville Man Faces Two DWI Counts in Golf Course Incident

Chris Meier is also charged with four other criminal counts for allegedly damaging property at Manhasset club.

A Sayville man is being charged with two counts of DWI, as well as four other criminal counts, for allegedly causing over $10,000 in damage to a Long Island golf course.

Chris Meier, 49, drove a 1995 Ford Taurus onto the Deepdale Golf Club in Manhasset Tuesday evening and struck at least two unoccupied golf carts and caused extensive damage to the club’s property before his car became stuck in a sand trap, according to Nassau Police. Meier allegedly then tried to run from the scene but was detained by club employees, said police.

He was arrested and is being charged with three counts of criminal mischief in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree, aggravated DWI and DWI.

Police said the exact amount of damage to the golf carts and complete extent of damage to the course has yet to be determined but police expect the damage will total well $10,000.

Meier is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead this morning.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
