Police: Pair Charged in Several Blue Point Residential Burglaries

Edward Hines III and Christopher Breitkopf were arrested Thursday after a burglary on Oakwood Drive, police say.

Two Blue Point men were arrested on Thursday in connection with several recent home burglaries in the area, police said. 

A resident of Oakwood Drive in Blue Point called 911 on Thursday at about 2:10 p.m. after discovering their home had been burglarized, police said. 

Fifth Squad Special Operations Team detectives, who were conducting directed patrol due recent burglaries in the area, received a description of the suspects provided by witnesses, police said.

The detectives were able to locate and arrest two men at their home a short time later, police said.

Edward Hines III, 33, and Christopher Breitkopf, 40, both of 165 Montauk Highway in Blue Point, were each charged with second degree burglary for the burglary on Oakwood Avenue.

Through further investigation, detectives discovered Hines III was responsible for four more residential burglaries and one attempted burglary, all occurring in Blue Point between July 17-24, police said. Hines III was additionally charged with four counts of second degree burglary and one count of second degree attempted burglary. 

The other burglaries were on Hillside Avenue, Pleasant Avenue and Homan Avenue, according to police reports. 

Hines III and Breitkopf were held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and were scheduled for arraignment Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
