Police Nab Thief During West Sayville Museum's Seafood Festival

Suffolk Police have nabbed a  thief they say hit numerous vehicles parked in West Sayville, as well as Bayport and Sayville, during the second day of the annual Long Island Maritime Seafood festival this past weekend.

Nicholas Montalbano, 20, of East Islip, was arrested Sunday for attempting to break into vehicles by Seventh Precinct Community Oriented Police Enforcement Officer James O’Callaghan at around 5 p.m. in the West Sayville Fire Department parking lot.

According to police electronic devices, credit cards, marijuana, controlled substances and a switchblade knife were found in Montalbano’s possession.

Further investigations by Fifth Squad detectives and Fifth Precinct Crime Section officers revealed the items recovered were stolen from vehicles in Bayport, Bohemia, Sayville and Montauk, say pollice.

Montalbano is charged with one count of grand larceny third degree, one count of grand larceny fourth degree, two counts of petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property fifth degree, criminal possession of a weapon fourth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Montalbano is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on August 27.
