UPDATE: Police: Carvel Robber Hit Dunkin Donuts With Accomplice

Crime duo arrested and charged following police chase that ended in Eastport.

Two people are under arrest and charged with attempting to rob a Dunkin Donuts in Blue Point Thursday night and one is also charged with robbing a Carvel in Bayport Wednesday evening, according to police.

A 911 call Thursday night reported a person acting suspiciously as they fled from Dunkin Donuts, on Montauk Highway, into the parking lot at approximately 9:40 p.m. When Fifth Precinct officers arrived on the scene they discovered that a person had just attempted to rob the store.

One of two suspects was then apprehended by police and identified as Kerry Crosby, 22, of Farmingville. Crosby was charged with attempted robbery.

Responding officers attempted to stop the vehicle and ended up pursuing the vehicle as it headed eastbound. Police say the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned on County Road 51 in Eastport.

The driver, Craig Cherney, 23, of Mastic Beach was arrested and charged with attempted robbery and is also under arrest and charged with robbery in the first degree for robbing the Carvel in Bayport. Police declined to state how much money was taken in that incident.

A box cutter was also used in the Carvel robbery, and Cherney was arrested and charged based on witness identification, according to Lt. Edward Reilly, of the Fifth Precinct.

Earlier this week Fifth Precinct detectives made an arrest in the robbery of another Dunkin Donuts in Holtsville on April 26.

Cherney was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, and Crosby is being held overnight for arraignment tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.

Fifth Squad detectives are continuing the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 631-854-8552 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will kept confidential.
