Four men were arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with a burglary at a Bayport residence that left the homeowner hospitalized, police said.

According to police, two men confronted a man inside his home on Bayview Avenue at about 12:25 p.m.

The men assaulted the victim and stole cash and jewelry before fleeing on foot, police said.

The victim ran to a neighbor’s house and attempted to follow the suspects, who got into a waiting white Honda on Connetquot Road in Bayport and drove away, police said.

The victim called police and gave a description of the car and suspects, police said.

Highway Patrol Officers Matthew DeWitt and John Hnat spotted the car with four people inside on westbound Sunrise Highway in Bohemia about a half hour later and initiated a traffic stop, police said.

The following people in the car were arrested and charged with first degree burglary:

  • Ramone Beauford, 18, of Bayport
  • Javier Gonzalez, 17, of Brentwood
  • Osman Flores, 20, of Central Islip
  • Nelson Vanegas, 19, of Brentwood

The victim went to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with non-life threatening body and facial injuries, police said.

Police did not have immediate info on any possible connection between the alleged burglars and the victim. The investigation is continuing.

The four men arrested are being held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.

Did anyone hear that this home invasion was due to drugs?? Heard it was a 20 year old boy who was robbed/hurt. Probably wrong info

Talking to my police friends - The police do not believe this was " random" The kid is a suspected dealer of some kind - sounds more like a deal gone bad then an actual invasion . I wouldn't doubt if , eventually, they come back to arrest the kid for something. The whole thing is very sketch. I'm glad no one got seriously hurt.
