No. 73 - Ladies Auxiliary Event Sets Blue Point Aglow
Blue Point Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary drums up support for annual holiday fundraiser.
is a longstanding December tradition- and fundraiser- for the Blue Point Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, where residents participate by lighting candles in the spirit of the holiday season on Dec. 11.
Wouldn't it be amazing to see all the streets of Blue Point shining in a Christmas glow on Sunday?
The Ladies Auxiliary is selling candle kits for the 2011 Light the Night event: $5 for 10 votives. Make checks payable to BPFD Ladies Auxiliary. The kits can be picked up on Dec. 7 and Dec. 8, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Blue Point firehouse.

On Sunday, Dec. 11 at 5 p.m. [rain date: Sunday, Dec. 18], those that purchased the kits are asked to set the candles up in front up their homes and line the streets. The Ladies Auxiliary hopes that everyone can take some time out of the hectic season to enjoy the beauty of candles with friends and neighbors and share the true spirit of the holidays.
Auxiliary member Shelley Wenk said the small group of women looks to get involved with as many projects as possible, and proceeds raised from their endeavors are used to fund projects supporting people, events and projects in Bayport-Blue Point, such as scholarships for two graduating seniors and the "adoption" of two families during the holidays.
