According to police the burglary took place shortly after midnight on May 7 when a police officer on patrol noticed the store had been broken into.

Suffolk County Police Canine Unit Officer Michael Cassidy and several other officers began a search around the store on North Main Street. Police said Cassidy's dog, Thor, picked up a scent that led officers to a wooded area just west of the bagel shop where proceeds including a cash register was found.
