Sixth precinct police officers use Narcan to save woman found in Medford home.

Suffolk County Police revived a teenager in Medford they said was unconscious as the result of overdosing on heroin.

According to police, Sixth Precinct Officers Michael Cafarella, Michael Malerba and Vashawn Hussain responded to a call Friday night of an unconscious female locked in a bathroom on Gull Avenue in Medford. The officers determined the woman had overdosed on heroin and administered intranasal Narcan, allowing the woman to regain consciousness.

The woman, 19, was transported by Medford Rescue to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. Police have not released her identity.

Suffolk Police are participating in the New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the deployment of Narcan, a prescription drug used to reverse opiate overdoses. Currently, the program is being used by officers in all Suffolk Police precincts, Marine Bureau and the Emergency Service Station.
