Nesconset Mother: Man Approached My 9-Year-Old Son in Yard

Police do not believe incident Thursday was an attempted abduction.

A Nesconset mother says her 9-year-old son was approached by a man in the yard of their home on Browns Road Thursday afternoon.

The boy was playing in the back yard when he saw a vehicle parked near the home and became suspicious of it at 4:45 p.m., police said.

The mother posted on Facebook that a middle-aged couple were inside the vehicle–described as a gold Audi–with a woman behind the wheel.

"The man approached my son 9 year old son from the back walked right on to my property said nothing to him and started power walking towards him," the mother wrote. "My son ran into the house. I came out and the man looked at me got in the car and the two of them sped off."

Police were called to the scene, but a police spokesperson told Patch Saturday that "the responding officer was not told that the man walked toward the boy or attempted to communicate with him."

Police said detectives were speaking with the mother and child again on Saturday, "but at this point, we have no reason to believe that this was an attempted abduction."

Smithtown schools Interim Superintendent Judith Elias notified parents of the incident on Friday and said security was being heightened at the district's elementary schools.

If you haven't told a nine year old about strangers by now you shouldn't be a parent. Anyone who knows me will tell you I'll say it so close to your face you'll get sprayed.

For Harry and EPG. Both of you should be ashamed of yourself! This is about a possible child abduction in our community. Enough with the st james and nesconset BS! Not one of you are better then the other ! News flash there is heroin in Both your towns there are students that get excellent grades and students that struggle in ALL smithtown schools. There are parents that do nothing or do it all in BOTH your towns!!! So give this fighting a break you need to grow up .

Momof3, That would be yourselves, not yourself. I can guarantee neither of my children or their friends use heroin. The police stated the day of the incident, they don't believe this was an abduction attempt.
