Medford's Jr. Firefighters Raise Money for Make-A-Wish

Kids host bowlathon and raise over $1200 for charity foundation.

Junior firefighters at the Medford Fire Department raised more than $1200 in the past year for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

The Juniors were recently recognized for their contribution by Michele Levine of Make-A-Wish and NYS Assemblyman Dean Murray at a small ceremony held at the Medford Firehouse. The funds were also matched this year by senior firefighter Al Trudil, owner of Almore Corp.

Fire Police Lieutenant , advisor for the Junior firefighters, has been organizing a Bowl-A-Thon every March for at least eight years to help raise funds for the charity.

Juniors’ Captain/Coach Marc Greck has been involved with the Bowl-A-Thon since it began.

“When we first started, every one would go out and find a sponsor. For every pin that [the Junior] knocked down during the tournament, the sponsor would pay a certain amount of money. As it grew, it became too complicated so we now ask for just donations. It’s nice to be able to help kids like us,” Greck said.

Junior member, 10 year old Bryanna Hansen, helped to raise the most money this year with a contribution of over $580.

"I went to a lot of houses for donations. I just kept walking around my neighborhood because I wanted to send it to people and help them," Hansen said.

The Juniors have raised over $9000 since the beginning of the Bowl-A-Thons.
