UPDATED: Man Hit by Train in West Sayville

Community Ambulance Company responded to Cherry Avenue crossing incident.

A male was struck by a westbound LIRR train at the Cherry Avenue crossing in West Sayville Thursday evening and survived with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Community Ambulance Company.

"We responded alone with the West Sayville Fire Department," Chris Gonzales, assistant chief, told Patch in an email Friday morning.

"The patient was treated by volunteer advanced life support technicians from our department as a precaution due to the mechanism of injuries and transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore in stable condition."

The ambulance company had four first responders on the scene, an ambulance and multiple volunteer members, added Gonzales.

A man was hit by a westbound train Thursday night and survived, according to a Newsday report.

According to the MTA the pedestrian was hit west of the Sayville train station, just before 9:30 p.m., and survived the incident and was taken to a hospital.

Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.
