An eastbound Long Island Rail Road train fatally struck an adult man on the tracks at 8:50 a.m. Sunday near McConnell Avenue in Bayport.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) spokesman Sam Zambuto said the man, who has yet to be identified, was unauthorized to be on the train tracks.
At this time, it is unknown why the man was on the tracks when he was hit by the train, which left Babylon at 8:21 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Speonk.
Train service was temporarily suspended between Sayville and Montauk as a result of the incident, but was restored by 11 a.m.
“At this point the incident is under investigation by the MTA police,” Zambuto said.
