Officials Respond to a Gas Main Break on Main Street

Bill's Barbershop evacuated after worker hits a gas line during construction.

After a gas main break was reported at 110 Main Street in Sayville Wednesday afternoon, high readings were reported at and the building was evacuated.

“It appears that lines were cut by someone doing work on the building,” said Wendy Liu, spokesperson for the Sayville Fire Department. “The Sayville Fire Department shut off the gas to the building and after venting it out, levels returned to normal.”

Suffolk County Police and officials from National Grid were also on scene to assess the situation.
