Fire Houses Salute in Memory of Sandy Hook Tragedy

Sayville and other local FDs will sound siren, ring bells 26 times Friday morning.

Local fire departments will be sounding sirens and bells 26 times at 9:45 a.m. Friday in honor of the 26 victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy and fellow firefighters and EMS personnel who responded to the horrific scene at the elementary school in Connecticut last Friday.

The Sayville and West Sayville Fire Departments will be participating with West Sayville ringing its bell in lieu of the siren. As of press deadline the Bayport Fire Department was unsure.

In Blue Point, the department will ring its bell 26 times. The bell is being used as the siren would take nearly an hour to complete given the system the siren operates on, according to a fire department member.

The siren memoriam effort is a national commemoration effort, according to a release issued Thursday by the Suffolk County Department of Fire Rescue and Emergency Services.

And so the taxpayer is once again asked to give more to an already out of control and bloatedRead More system. Every year the school districts on Long Island receive increases of millions of dollars to their budgets, and still they want to bleed the taxpayer for more. As two income families struggle to pay exorbitant tax bills, we’re asked to pay even more? We’ll here’s a novel idea, how about if the teachers union’s began demanding less? This early retirement baloney must stop, salaries should be capped, administrators and their staffs must be cut by at least eighty percent. In addition, educators and staff should have to pay for their own medical and retirement plans just as the rest of us must. Here on Long Island, families are suffering and sacrificing, and many are being forced to leave due to taxes which are out of control. It is time for educators to cease hiding behind children with threats of decreased student programs, and to make an honest and realistic observation as to why things are as bad as they are. To blame parents for not paying enough into the system to support the schools is ludicrous. The real problem lies in a system which is self serving, and run by incompetents blind to the harm they are inflicting upon our children and families.

It's a drive-through bank.

I heard it was a bank some time ago, but I can't imagine which bank would run a construction projectRead More so poorly.
