Fire Commissioner Elections Set for Tuesday

Residents will head to the polls on Tuesday to elect a Fire Commissioner. Here is your voting guide.

Sayville

Mark Schmittzeh, who was appointed commissioner in April, is running unopposed for a 4-year term.

Mark Frappied and Chris Bailey are vying for the seat vacated by current commissioner Ed Carpenter, who is not seeking re-election. This is a five-year-term.

Mark Frappied is a Sayville resident and active in the Sayville's volunteer fire department. He is a past member of Sayville Community Ambulance Company and has 35 years experience in volunteer fire service. Frappied is a 22-year career veteran, lieutenant for Garden City Fire Department and a 23-year career supervising deputy chief/paramedic for Nassau County Emergency Medical Services Academy.

Frappied holds many certifications and was recognized for seven firematic awards including Nassau County Gold Medal of Valor. He has been married to his wife Eileen for 26 years and they have three children – Samantha, Shannon and Mark Patrick.

Chris Bailey is a life-long Sayville resident and a member of the Sayville Fire Department. He is past vice president, secretary and trustee of the department. In addition, he has chaired many successful fundraisers including the annual comedy night, raffles and Las Vegas night.

Bailey is a youth sports coach for both Little League and PAL football and has three children in Sayville schools. Bailey said that having owned two small businesses, he has the background necessary to serve the Sayville community. He has dealt with issues involving budgets, employees, insurance, NYS regulatory agencies, purchasing, sales, accounting, payroll, taxes and more.

Voting will take place at the , located at 107 North Main Street, on Dec. 14 between 3 and 9 p.m. Only residents registered to vote with the Suffolk County Board of Elections on or before November 22 are eligible to vote.

West Sayville

The West Sayville-Oakdale Fire District is conducting elections on Dec. 14. Current commissioner Thomas G. McNamara is seeking re-election for a 5-year term. He is running unopposed.

The polls will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Residents living on the west side of Locust Avenue and west thereof must vote at Station 1 at 1201 Montauk Highway in Oakdale and those who reside on the east side of Locust Avenue and east thereof must vote in the building at 80 Main Street in West Sayville.
