Sayville FD: Please Help Keep Street Hydrants Visible

As the blizzard descends local fire department asks for residents' help on safety need.

The Sayville Fire Department is asking residents to keep an eye on hydrants during the snow storm hitting Friday night and help make sure hydrants are cleared completely.

As the department noted on Patch's Facebook page, minutes count during a fire and precious time will be lost finding the precise location of the hydrant and digging it out.

A two feet clearing around the hydrant will give firefighters enough room to quickly hook up their hoses and get water on the fire quickly should they be called to a fire under these conditions.
