Crimes Nearby: Police Say Home Health Aide Stole From Patient

A look at crimes reported across the region.

A home health aide from Mastic was arrested this past week and charged with stealing her patient’s Rolex watch and replacing it with a fake one, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Joanne Pinder took the watch from her patient, a resident of Bellport Village on April 12. This past Monday Fifth Precinct Officers Brian Loughlin and Kevin Yoli pulled over Pinder on South Country Road and Academy Lane in Bellport for an unrelated traffic violation.

After further investigation, the victim’s Rolex, which has a value of more than $7,000, was found in Pinder’s vehicle, police said.

Detectives charged Pinder, 22, with Grand Larceny 5th Degree. She was also charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation.

• Man Injured on LIE

A bizarre accident on the off ramp at Exit 61 of the Long Island Expressway sent a man to the hospital on Wednesday.

Police say an unidentified man was driving his Jeep westbound on LIE and pulled over to the shoulder on Express Drive North for an unknown reason. The driver got out of his vehicle and was standing near it when a tractor trailer heading in the same direction lost two back tires as it passed.

As the truck sped by the loose tire began to roll toward the man’s parked Jeep. That’s when police say the man attempted to stop the tire from striking his vehicle by jumping in front of it. The tire struck the motorist, injuring him.

The man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center. His condition was unknown, but police said his injuries were non-life-threatening.

• East Patchogue Man Hurt Crossing Street

An East Patchogue man sustained serious injuries in a motor vehicle crash early Friday morning in East Patchogue, said Suffolk County Police.

Robert Raymer, 52, was crossing East Main Street at the intersection of Grove Avenue around 12:06 a.m. when he was struck by a 2011 Toyota Camry that police say was driven by Frantz Dubois of Central Islip.

Police say Raymer was treated at the scene by North Patchogue Fire Department and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital via Suffolk County Police helicopter. Police say that Raymer is listed in serious condition. Dubois stayed at the scene of the crash but was not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and police say the investigation is continuing.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
