Court Date Set for Sayville Man in Alleged Hit and Run

Lincoln Avenue resident remains in jail following car crash Tuesday.

A 43-year-old Sayville man, arrested and charged in a hit-and-run car crash on Lincoln Avenue in Sayville Tuesday, is being held on $30,000 cash bail on a grand larceny charge for allegedly stealing the car he was driving in the accident.

Richard Thorson, a resident of Lincoln Avenue, is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury, criminal mischief and resisting arrest following the three-car accident. According to the district attorney's office he is not charged with driving while intoxicated or driving while ability impaired by drugs. He is being represented by Michael Annibale, a Garden City attorney.

Thorson's first court date was Thursday, following his arraignment on Wednesday. He is scheduled to be back in First District Court on June 4. According to a criminal case tracking website he is being represented by

According to police, Thorson allegedly stole a car about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon and was headed northbound on Lincoln Avenue in a 1996 Toyota when he crossed the double yellow line and crashed into the driver's side of a 2001 Pontiac in the southbound lane. The Pontiac, with two sisters inside, was then pushed into a parked 2012 Honda on the west side of Lincoln Avenue.

Police said Thorson left the scene of the crime and was charged with criminal mischief for allegedly kicking out the rear passenger window of a police car in which he was sitting. Police say Thorson was not injured but was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital with chest pains.

The two females in the Pontiac, one of which had to be extricated by Sayville Fire Department response teams, were injured and taken to Southside Hospital.
