BWI Charge As Labor Day Holiday Kicks Off

Boater heading from Oakdale to West Islip arrested and charged with BWI early Saturday morning.

A boater who told Suffolk Marine Police he had been drinking Friday night at a restaurant in Oakdale was arrested for boating while intoxicated as he headed to West Islip, according to police.

Christopher Meditz, of East Islip, was operating a 30-foot Wellcraft Scarab and seen driving erratically in the North Channel, according to police, at about 1:20 a.m.

Suffolk Marine Bureau officers on routine patrol said they observed the boat and stopped the vessel. Police say Meditz, 28, appeared confused and disoriented and told police he was driving the boat to West Islip.
