House Fire on Snedecor Avenue

Six fire departments respond to a house fire that occurred on Snedecor Avenue at approximately 11 a.m.

A fire occurred in a bedroom on the second floor of a residential home at 98 Snedecor Avenue shortly before 11 a.m. on  Monday. Bayport Fire Department was immediately on the scene, followed by Blue Point, Patchogue, Sayville, West Sayville and Bohemia fire departments, in addition to Community Ambulance Company in Sayville, Suffolk County and Islip Town fire marshals, Suffolk County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services (FRES) and Suffolk County Police Department's Arson Squad and police department members.

Residents of the home evacuated immediately, as well as the homeowner's pet dog. "Nobody's trapped, everything's under control. Now fire departments are doing overhaul, wetting everything down so a fire doesn't start up again," said Community Ambulance member Diana.

FRES Deputy Fire Coordinator/Public Information Officer Paul Llobell, Jr. said the reason so many units were called in was because of the time. "All of these departments are here because this incident happened during the day. We never know how many firefighters will be able to come down during weekday business hours because most of them work as well."

Neighbors looked on as the fire crew worked to clear the scene of all potential hazards. Neighbor Dennis Forman was glad all was well despite the damage to the home. "Thank God nobody was hurt," he said.
