Blue Point Woman Facing DWI Charge Now Facing Additional Infraction

The Blue Point woman assigned as a crossing guard to the Bayport-Blue Point School District and who was arrested for DWI Wednesday is also facing a charge of leaving the scene of an accident, according to a county crime database.

Joanne Griffiths, who was due to be arraigned Thursday morning on the DWI charge, allegedly hit a parked car on Blue Point Avenue about 9 a.m. Tuesday and then left the scene, according to a Newsday report.

The 58-year-old was arrested Wednesday by Suffolk Police in the parking lot of Waldbaum’s shopping center on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue at about 9:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a possible drunk driver, according to police.
