Blue Point Kids Get Hands-On Fire Safety Lesson

Students learn the basics of fire safety at Blue Point Fire Department.

students learned about fire safety from the pros, volunteers, when the firehouse became a live classroom where kids had the opportunity to explore rescue vehicles and even operate a fire hose.

Firefighters covered the basics with the students, educating them about what precautions to take to prevent fires, as well as what to expect and how to react in case of an emergency.

The volunteers at the department showed students the protective gear they wear when responding to a fire, explaining the purpose of each piece. Students were given a tour of a fire truck and the equipment stored within its various compartments. They also had the opportunity to climb into the fire truck’s cabin, buckle in and try on an oxygen mask.
