Blue Point Burglary

A Maple Street home was burglarized on Sunday afternoon.

One Blue Point family's Labor Day weekend fun ended when they returned home Sunday afternoon and found their house on Maple Street was being burglarized.

Police received a call on Sunday at 4:03 p.m. from a Blue Point resident who said they came home and heard someone leaving their house, according to a Suffolk County Police Department spokesperson. At this time the SCPD could not confirm the exact address, but said that no items were taken from the home.

"The burglary is still under investigation, there have been no arrests yet," said the spokesperson.

Residents said they noticed a police helicopter flying over the area on Sunday afternoon. In addition, at least one police car patrolled the area for the remainder of Sunday evening and night.

Several burglaries have occurred in the Bayport-Blue Point area throughout the last few weeks, including two Bayport burglaries on Sept. 1:

  • On August 11 at 10:30 a.m., a person advised police of the burglary of a home on Nelson Avenue in Blue Point.
  • At 9 a.m. on Aug. 31, a person reported the burglary of a home on Middle Road in Blue Point to police.
  • On Sept. 1 at 10:30 a.m., a resident told police about the burglary of a home on Academy Street in Bayport.
  • At 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 1, police were advised of the burglary of a home on Barrett Avenue in Bayport.
