Bayport's Le Soir Restaurant Ravaged in Early Morning Blaze

Iconic French eatery destroyed by fire that started about 2:30 a.m.

The well-known iconic French cuisine restaurant Le Soir, on the corner of Bayport Avenue and Montauk Highway in Bayport, was destroyed in a blaze early Friday morning.

The fire broke out in the basement, according to Bayport Fire Chief Bob Fleming. Fire units from Bayport, Blue Point, Sayville, West Sayville and Patchogue responded to the 2 a.m. call.

"It was not fully engulfed but there was heavy smoke," said Fleming, adding firefighters had the fire under control by 3 a.m. No one was hurt in the blaze.

The smell of smoke still hung heavy in the air at 6:30 a.m., as workers secured the ravaged building which was still standing but clearly gutted.
