Bayport Resident Among Fallen Cops to be Honored

Suffolk Police Officer Glen Ciano is among nearly two dozen fallen officers to be remembered.

Suffolk Police will hold a special ceremony Friday to honor 22 cops who in the line of duty, including former Bayport resident Glen Ciano.

Ciano was killed on February 22, 2009 while responding to an aid call from a fellow officer when his patrol car was hit by convicted drunk driver Jose Borbon. Ciano's car careened into a utility pole and exploded into flames on Vanderbilt Motor Parkway near Commack Road in Commack.

Borbon spent two years and eight months in prison before he was released in October, 2011.

The memorial service to honor the officers will be held at 10:30 at police headquarters in Yaphank.
